How much equity have you built?

Here's what's on my mind this week: the quiet power of homeownership. Every month, something real is happening in your favor.

Equity Building

Your home is working for you every month

Every mortgage payment you make does two things: it covers interest and reduces what you owe. That second part is called building equity, and it's one of the most reliable ways homeowners build wealth over time. The longer you own, the faster your equity grows—especially if rates drop and you refinance, or if your home appreciates. I've seen families surprised by how much equity they've accumulated after just a few years of steady payments. If you're curious about your current position, I can pull together a quick snapshot of what you've built so far. It's worth knowing.

Let me know if you'd like to see where your equity stands right now.

Tip of the Week

If your credit score is below 740, even small improvements before applying for a mortgage can save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Tips for Homeowners

Weatherproofing Your Home Before Winter

1.

Clean your chimney if you have a fireplace. The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual inspection and cleaning to prevent chimney fires.

2.

Check attic insulation and ventilation before winter. Inadequate insulation leads to heat loss, higher energy bills, and ice dams on the roof that can cause significant damage.

3.

Inspect weatherstripping on all exterior doors. A simple dollar-bill test works: close the door on a bill — if you can pull it out easily, your weatherstripping needs replacing.
